Grip contests typically feature four or five different events. Event selection for a given contest is done at the contest director's discretion. The rules for some of the most common events can be found on the Grip Sport International website.
When grip sport contests are announced, the events to be included are identified, and the rules are provided. Demonstration videos are also typically created, especially if an event is new.
Some contests are known as "mega-contests". These are contests held in multiple venues around the world on the same day. Each contest promoter runs the same events with the same rules and equipment. The fun thing about these contests is that instead of just competing with a handful of people, you can see how you fare against grip sport athletes from around the world!
Grip sport is very much in its infancy. In Canada, contests have been held in Ottawa dating back to 2007, and in Edmonton for the first time in 2016. Other Canadian promoters are now just starting to emerge and putting on contests in different parts of the country. An initial investment of time and money is required to organize a contest (e.g. cost of purchasing of equipment, time required to weigh equipment), but once this is done, hosting subsequent grip sport contests is much easier.
Should you be interested in organizing a grip sport contest in Canada, please do not hesitate to contact Eric Roussin. The IGC Technical Rules Book provides many details, and he can help answer any other questions you may have.
